Bank of America Denied Your Debit-Card Fraud Claim: Reviewing the Decision

A denied Bank of America debit-card claim deserves a careful comparison of the allegation and response. Begin with the specific purchases or withdrawals that remain unpaid. An unfamiliar merchant descriptor, an account takeover, and a disagreement over a purchase are not interchangeable.

Separate an unauthorized purchase from a merchant disagreement

If you made the purchase, explain whether the issue is a duplicate charge, an incorrect amount, or a product dispute. If someone else made it, explain what you know about card access and account access. Keep receipts, merchant messages, and any delivery information without assuming they prove who authorized the transaction.

Review the decision for each charge

A partial refund can make a claim look resolved even when other entries remain disputed. Create a simple ledger showing the disputed amount, any credit, any reversal, and the balance still contested. Match every entry to the bank’s decision and preserve the claim identifiers.

Keep card and online-service agreements distinct

Bank of America publishes an online-banking agreement with an arbitration provision, but the agreement relevant to a particular card purchase must be checked separately. Preserve the deposit agreement, card terms, service agreements, and amendments you received. Bank of America Online Banking Service Agreement.

Decide what you want an attorney to examine

Identify the unresolved issue: a transaction missing from the decision, an unexplained authorization finding, or a disputed investigation step. Provide the evidence behind that concern. For the broader framework, see our EFTA and debit-card dispute guide. Credit-card billing disputes belong under a different framework, discussed in our FCBA guide.

Frequently asked questions

Does a merchant receipt automatically defeat my claim?

Not necessarily. The receipt and surrounding evidence need to be assessed against what you reported.

Will sending this firm an inquiry notify Bank of America?

No. An intake request does not file a bank dispute or legal proceeding and does not establish representation.
